| Forest Town Football Team 2009 |
The club was formed in 2000, starting off in Junior 7 in the Drew Smith Southampton league. We won that season without losing a game. After being promoted 2 divisions to Junior 5 we continued to dominate Southampton league football, winning the Southampton FA Junior Cup, the Hampshire B and the league. This time we were promoted 3 divisions and started a youth team and a reserve team.
The first team continued to be really successful winning the league and unfortunately runners up in the Ron Valance memorial plate and therefore gaining promotion to the senior leagues of Southampton league football.
The reserve team was far from successful getting relegated in this season. The youth team however finished Runners up in the Mid Solent league and reaching the semi final of the league cup. The natural progression continued for 2 more seasons but without winning leagues or cup finals.
Then the hard times hit the first team folded and with it the youth team also folding. This was mainly to do with financial reasons. However when all seemed lost Roger Winter and Daryl Wells managed to keep the res team afloat and had a relatively successful season finishing 3rd in division 5 meaning promotion and also getting to the Junior League Cup Final. As massive underdogs against the Gardeners top team in junior football who didn't lose a game up to this point of the season. We beat them 2-1 in the final to get Forest Town back on the Southampton football league map.
The following season was more about trying to make more progress being in division 4, the centenary year for the Drew Smiths football leagues we again finished 2nd in the league and remarkably got into the final of the Junior League Cup for a second year running, something that has never been done in the 100 years of the Southampton league.
Again being underdogs we won against Allbrook who were 3 divisions above us. Beating them 2-1 and winning the cup for the second year. Now in Division 3 finishing runners up and getting promoted to Division 2 the progress continues to be fantastic.
Amazingly we got into the final of the League Cup again (2009). History makers Forest Town now firmly established as one of the best teams in junior football. This time, as firm favourites, we won 4-2 against Wheatshield.
The progress has been excellent and I hope it continues. As again we will be playing in the senior leagues of the Southampton Football League.
I would like to take this opportunity to say a massive thank you to the Forest Home Public House and especially to Lorraine, the landlady, for her continuing support of the team and in helping to fund us, without you this would not have been possible.
